The Saturday meeting is open to anyone who would like to
attend and learn something about how AA functions. All the
other meetings are for members only. The only requirement for
membership is a desire to stop drinking. Each meeting lasts
one hour. The group that meets at JCPC is named "Primary
Purpose Group of Alcoholics Anonymous." The name refers to
one of the traditions of Alcoholics Anonymous which states "…Our
primary purpose is to carry its message to the alcoholic who
still suffers".
Primary Purpose Group is self-supporting and does not accept
outside contributions. The Group pays rent to Johns Creek
Presbyterian Church for its meeting facilities in trailer "B."
Our meetings are children friendly, enabling many of our
single parent members to attend with their children. We
provide facilities in an adjacent room for their care. Each
meeting is non-smoking, although we provide an area for smoking
outside.
Primary Purpose Group will provide guest speakers to other non
AA related groups who wish to learn more about Alcoholics
Anonymous. Contact the JCPC church office for details.
The JCPC library contains a copy of the book "Alcoholics Anonymous"
which is considered AA's "textbook". Also there you will find
a copy of "Twelve Steps and Twelve Traditions" which covers the
program of AA in more detail.
